A Peek at PEI's First LP Sponsored Cannabis Event w/ Arkells by Sean Berrigan

As the looming October 17, 2018 Canadian Cannabis legalization date comes closer and closer, companies are scrambling to put all their efforts into building their brand before regulations come into play. One of these companies pushing the rules in the name of building brand equity is Canadian Licensed Producer Aurora Cannabis. They have been recently holding big events for their Illumination Series celebrating arts, music, culture and legalization all over Canada featuring big names in the music industry like Post Malone, Ghostface Killah, Queens Of The Stone Age, Kings of Leon and City & Colour to mention a few. They recently held Prince Edward Island’s first LP sponsored events here in Charlottetown at the PEI Brewing Company featuring Arkells. We were fortunate enough to get press passes to this event which allowed us to snap some photos of the event and performance.

I only brought an old point and shoot film camera with half a roll of film in it, as I wasn’t expecting to really take any photos but did anyways. One of the great experiences Aurora provided to the attendees on top of the great performance was a Terpene Infused Drink Bar powered by The Space Bear Company. These drinks did not contain alcohol or cannabis but they recreated similar taste and smell terpene profiles in drinks to what you would experience with different strains of Cannabis. Terpenes are the essential oils in cannabis that hold the flavour and smell profile of the plant and they also act as a modulator of the varying effects experienced from consuming different strains of Cannabis. They work alongside Cannabinoids like psychoactive THC and the equally important non-psychoactive CBD to provide varying therapeutic effects to the end consumer. You can find naturally occurring terpenes in lots of different foods and plants (think fruits, vegetables and herbs). They’re used similarly to the way one would use aromatherapy in the way essential oils like Lavender that are used for sleep, Pine used for memory retention and Lemon used for energy.

I scanned the images I shot at the event recently and did scan in a very dusty environment so the images have lots of dust but I think it adds to the aesthetic haha.

The DIY In-Home Barbering Wave is here! by Sean Berrigan

In another hangout with my bud Jared, we had a couple boys over for a cut and a cup of drink. If you missed the last post, Jared's been inviting his good buds over for a good ol'fashioned hang but with twist. Jared has been working as a barber for over a year now and wanted to have a more intimate place to cut his friends hair and try new techniques that he normally wouldn't feel comfortable trying at Humble Barber in Charlottetown (the barbershop he cuts out of now). You can't hang out and have a beer and play your fav music at any barbershop around here so Jared wanted to offer a spot for his close friends where he could work at perfecting his craft while having a dope spot that friends could chill at with no rush or pressure to do anything. It's all about the vibes and the experience people!

This session featured our friend Nick Macdonald who works as co-owner and personal trainer at Kinetic Fitness here in Charlottetown. The second hooligan you see in the shots with the dashing long hair is Nigel Thompson who's owner and chef smoker extraordinaire behind Sneaky Cheats PEI, a craft catering service based on PEI. The last fella in for the cut is yours truly :)

Pre-NYE Winter Foraging on Robinsons Island, PEI by Sean Berrigan

When my girlfriend decided that she wanted to make a holiday winter wreath, I knew a great place that neither of us had been to during the winter time. We're both usually allergic to super cold weather but decided we needed to suck it up and get some air into our lungs. We ventured out to Robinson's Island, a small island attached to the Brackley Provincial Park on the North Shore of PEI. Robinson's Island Trail System, also known as R.I.T.S is a 5km multi-purpose pedestrian and bike trail system that once housed a family campground. When I was in college for Photography at Holland College, we would always go there for a class photo excursion field trip at the start of each school year, so I was slightly familiar with the area but still rusty. I remembered that there I'd always see this ghostly dilapidated building planted in the middle of the woods that once housed a tiny theatre that one could only assume was operating during the days of the family camp ground.  We didn't get to see this building sadly enough, I think it may of fallen for good over the years. Vanessa and I, along with our favourite little golden doodle Hazel went for a nice stroll through the island. Vanessa found some really great leaves, twigs, berries and branches all of which were already fallen to make sure not to disturb the healthy and living trees, and bushes around. We had some great views, some smokey joints (medical) and snapped a few shots throughout the whole venture. If you didn't know already, PEI has some incredible winter trails and scenery that often gets looked past because of the cold weather. Don't miss out!
